Awareness seminar for Joint Forest Management Committees

Wokha, June 10 (MExN): A one day awareness seminar was organised by Wokha Forest Development Agency (FDA) for all the 20 Joint Forest Management Committees (JFMCs) at Forest Colony, Wokha. The seminar was attended by JFMC presidents and members and the staff of Wokha Forest Division.  

Janbemo Ezung, Dy. Ranger, Wokha Range chaired the programme and Zuthunglo Patton, IFS, DFO Wokha delivered the keynote address. Patton explained the concept of National Afforestation Programme and the purpose of Joint Forest Management. She encouraged the JFMC presidents and members to make the best possible use of the opportunity given by the Government for them to create plantations.  

The structure, composition, roles and responsibilities of JFMCs were explained in detail by Punseni Khing, RFO Merapani Range followed by Chubomo Lotha, RFO, Changpang Beat explaining about the importance of trees, their benefits and the present climate change scenario.  

An interactive session was also held where the villagers shared their doubts and concerns while some shared their experiences. The programme ended with vote of thanks by Kekhrieselhou Angami, RFO Baghty Range, followed by distribution of Solar Lamps under Flexi-fund of Wokha FDA.  

Solar lamps were given to all the 20 villages under the current FDA (Jhum & Regular). The Division in a press release lauded Yatendra Aggrawal of Eco-solution Technologies Pvt. Ltd. who agreed to provide the Solar Lamps at a subsidized rate.
