The Angami Youth Organization (AYO) First Community Responder team today carried out various activities, including massive clearance of clogged drains, assisting fire victim, and checking of possible influx of “illegal immigrants” and zonal taxi within AYO jurisdiction.

AYO volunteers and the T. Khel Union, Kohima Village conducted massive social work stretching between Classic Island, Kohima Town and National Highway-29. The elders of T Khel Union guided the volunteers in identifying the traditional river routes which were clogged due to random construction. The volunteers cleared up the blocked drainages and also cleared routes.

AYO FCR team also assisted in clearing the debris of fire ravaged house at T Khel, Kohima Village this afternoon.

Meanwhile, Chakhro based AYO FCR team conducted intensive checking of documents of non-Nagas being ferried by taxis at the Chümoukedima check gate throughout the day.

The checking was done to curb the possible influx of “illegal immigrants” following the NRC in Assam and to stop the practice of taxi drivers taking undue advantage by hiking passenger fare due to the prevalent precarious situation triggered by landslides between Dimapur and Kohima, according to AYO.

The checking included identity confirmation of various documents of non-Nagas, ferrying excess taxi passengers, hiked taxi rates/fares, driving license, taxi permit etc.

The volunteers have detected various anomalies including those trying to pass the gate without proper documents. It was also observed that several taxi drivers were without driving license and taxi permits.

AYO FCR handed over the defaulters to police for necessary action.
