Ayushman Bharat: Health & Wellness Centre launched in Nagaland

Kohima, February 22 (MExN): The launching programme of Sub Centre-Health & Wellness Centre under Ayushman Bharat was launched by Principal Secretary for Health & Family Welfare, I. Himato Zhimomi at Meriema Sub Centre, Kohima on February 22.

According to a DIPR report, launching the programme, Himato said that under Ayushman Bharat there are two pillars i.e. National Health Protection Scheme (NHPS) and Health & Wellness Centre (HWC), where Nagaland State is launching the Health & Wellness Centre today with 56 centres across the State. 

He stated that the main objective of Ayushman Bharat is not only to stay healthy but also to maintain healthy mind and spirit in our lives. 

Under the NHPS a person who has been registered with the schemes will get 5 lakhs cashless benefit in the event of ailments, he said. He said with the inauguration of the HWC centre, not only our health but also our wellness and welfare as a whole will be considerably improved by availing the best services being provided at the centre.  

Himato mentioned that healthy mind and spirit is equally important as healthy body for growth and development of the state. He also urged the churches to come forward and create awareness to the people on how to stay healthy and happily with our fellow citizens. Different activities have been conducted as part of this programme in order to stay fit and healthy, he added. 

The Mission Director National Health Mission, Nagaland, Dr. Kevichusa Medikhru chairing the program said that the MoHFW envisages upgradation of all 1.5 lakh SCs to Health & Wellness Centres (HWCs) in the country for provision of comprehensive primary healthcare by December 2022.

Keeping in line with this, Dr. Medikhru said that the Department of Health and Family Welfare Nagaland (NHM) has upgraded three UPHCs and two PHCs and now with the upgradation of 56 SCs in Nagaland, which will be upgraded in a phase manner. He said that the key principal of the program is to bring Healthcare closer to home. 

The Centre will be equipped with the comprehensive laboratory, (19 test HWC-PHC and 7 test in HWC-SC) Pharmacy, robust IT system, essential drugs and supplies and proper infrastructure with provision for wellness activities. There will be 12 packages of service in HWC such as care in pregnancy and child birth, neonatal and infant health care service, childhood and adolescent health care services, family planning, contraceptive services and other reproductive health care services, management of communicable diseases: national health programmes, general out-patient care for acute simple illnesses and minor ailments, screening, prevention, control and management of non-communicable diseases, care of common ophthalmic and ENT problems, basic oral health care services, elderly and palliative health care services, emergency medical services including burns and trauma and screening and basic management of mental health ailments.

The Mission Director also said that Community Health Officer (BSc. Nursing/GNM with field experiences) who has undergone six month intensive training will be posted in the Centre to deliver the package of services and further urged the community to utilize the services provided in all the health care facilities. He also requested the community to extend their full cooperation with the department in general and the staffs posted in the village in particular to implement the comprehensive Primary Health Care through Health & Wellness Centre successfully.

The Chairman of Meriema Village Council, Kelhoupralie Whuorie in his short speech thanked the Government bureaucrats and officials for upgrading the Sub Centre to Health & Wellness Centre and launching the centre for the benefit of the community in the village. 

State Program Officer NHM, Nagaland, Dr. Thanghoi Lam delivered the vote of thanks followed by a volleyball match between the Medical Staff and Meriema youth to promote wellness in the community.
