BAN proposes centralized tax collection system with online payment facility

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 17 (MExN): The Business Association of Nagaland (BAN) has proposed a centralized tax collection system with online payment facility to streamline taxation and ensure that taxes collected reach the exchequer. It also stated that this would, at the same time, drastically eliminate unnecessary and multiple taxation by various departments.

According to a press statement issued by media cell, BAN, streamlining of taxation is necessary for development and overall growth of the state economy. While pointing out that currently there are many taxes levied by departments at various check points, the Association wondered if collection of some of these taxes are legal, keeping in mind that the GST norms is in place.

The Association stated that good carrying vehicles stopped at various points not only encourage multiple taxation for the same commodity but also make it convenient for various unscrupulous individuals and organizations to levy taxes.
It has therefore suggested the state government to authorize a particular department or an agency to collect legal taxes on behalf of the various departments.
