Cross border trade activities continued to paralyse in Manipur’s border town Moreh bordering Myanmar for the second consecutive day on Sunday even as additional police force was called out from Imphal to maintain public order.

Kuki civil society organisations based in the border town imposed the indefinite bandh registering strong condemnation to a series of bomb blasts in the border town in recent times.

Suspected militants triggered IEDs in Moreh on the night of October 5, 7 and 11. No casualties were reported in the blasts.

However, angered by the series of blasts despite the deployment of a large number of state and Central security forces, being a border town, the civil society organisations gave the indefinite bandh call which got commenced from Friday night.

Owing to the bandh, the border town wore a deserted look for the second consecutive day on Sunday with no vehicles of any kind seen on the roads.

Almost all shops and business establishments downed their shutters, severely paralysing the normal cross border trade activities.

Even as Namphalong market on Myanmar side of the international border was opened, there was dull business in the market as no customer or trader from Manipur side crossed the border.

No untoward incident related with the bandh was reported during the bandh even though there were reports of bandh supporters blocking roads, particularly on NH-102 passing through the border town by putting fire, piling stones and logs across the roads.

Meanwhile, an official source here said that additional police forces have been sent to Moreh considering the prevailing law and order situation in the town bordering with Myanmar.

On the other hand, condemnation to the series of blasts in the border town continued to pour in from various Moreh based civil society organisations.
