Baptist youth leaders resolve to ‘Inspire, Initiate, Impact’

Dimapur, November 6 (MExN): The National Baptist Youth Leaders’ Summit 2017 was held at Mumbai on the theme ‘Inspire, Initiate, Impact’ from October 26 to 29.  

Altogether 185 youth leaders from across the country representing various Baptist associations and conventions attended the conference which was organized by the Baptist Youth Fellowship India (BYFI) in partnership with India Mission Coordination Committee (IMCC) and hosted by the Maharashtra Baptist Society (MBS).  

A resolution of the Summit was also presented to the floor by the President BYFI, Rev. Vikuo Rhi, which was framed together with Rev. Samaresh Nayak, Coordinator, IMCC and the same was approved and adopted.  

As part of the deliberation, the delegates of the Summit resolve that “in a pressing time such as this, we are called to live our life in witnessing, making our faith more vibrant and apparent to the world.” The convention called upon the Christian youth of India to be more vibrant in their faith and witness to a world that is becoming more skeptical and depressive, enticing us to be otherwise and conformist. “As generation of new life we must impact our world with the message of love, forgiveness and redemption. We are called to “inspire, Initiate and Impact.”  

The BYFI resolved to expand its constituents by inviting other Baptist Convention who are yet to join the National Baptist Youth Fellowship India. The BYFI also committed to bring a larger unity of the Baptists in India and decide to appeal/write to all the Baptist Convention heads in India to take this concern seriously in organizing a fraternal national body of the Baptists in India.  

Workshops were conducted on the following topics: Emerging Issues Confronting Christian Youth Today by Rev. Rob Ely, Director, Baptist Campus Ministries, USA; God and Career by Krista Roluahpuia, Research Scholar, Molecular Beam Epitaxy Research Group, IIT Bombay; Worship by Rev Dr Jeremy Myers, Youth Pastor, West Virginia; Human Trafficking by Asha Sanchu, Director, Miqlat Ministry, Dimapur; Media by Pastor John Christopher, Centenary Baptist Church, Hyderabad; Values by Elder Zachary Kijinski, Madison Place Community Church, Cincinnati, Ohio.  

A plenary session was also held on this day with the focus on ‘BYFI and a Larger Unification of Baptist Youth in India: Prospects and Challenges’ led by Salem Bikram, Asst. General Secretary, BYFI, where Rev. Liancchunga Khiangte, Secretary BYFI presented the structure of the organization of BYFI and presented some challenges on the floor for discussion.  

The concluding day ended with a Holy Communion which was administered by Rev. Vivian Fernandes, Director MBS and praises from the two choirs of the conference viz. NBCC and MBC.  

A press note also stated that the National Baptist Youth Conference 2019 which will be held at Agartala, Tripura hosted by the Tripura Baptist Association.
