The Union Minister of State for Home, Kiren Rijiju today stressed that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) respects social fabric of the country and was clear that the interest of the “Christian people have to be protected at all cost.”

“The allegations that the party supports anti-Christian activities are completely baseless because BJP has been fighting to protect the interest of Christians at the national level,” asserted Rijiju while campaigning for the party’s candidate Kevechutso Doulo of the 17th Chizami Assembly Constituency in Phek district today.

Rijiju also addressed BJP rallies at 60th Pungro A/C and 59th Seyochung A/C in Kiphire district earlier in the day.

“Our opponents have nothing to say about us as we have tackled corruption and other issues successfully unlike preceding governments, so they are now saying that we are “anti – Christian,” he added at the Chizami rally.

According to a press release from Media Cell BJP Nagaland, the Union Minister reportedly vowed that “If during our reign, any church and Christians in the state are persecuted, I will leave politics.”

On his maiden visit to the constituency, he also challenged the supporters that if the BJP is elected to power, then he will make sure that the constituency will get better roads, proper medical and telecom facilities.

Recognising the uniqueness of the Naga history, Rijiju categorically stated that “this election will shape the future of Nagaland” because BJP is very aware of the Naga political issue and “the Election will lead to long term solution.”

Also speaking at the rally, the intending candidate Kevechutso Doulo talked about his intent in ushering in change into the constituency.   Submitting a memorandum to the Union Minister, Doulo asked the centre to ensure better roads in the area and also bring about much needed development in the region.

Modi serious about Naga political issue, Eastern Nagaland

Touching upon political issue, Rijiju claimed that the Prime Minster Narendra Modi is very clear about the Naga struggle and has personally assured that it will be the BJP’s “moral duty” to solve this problem during this tenure.

Prior to this election, the BJP was never an important stakeholder of the Nagaland government but with things looking up and with the BJP-NDPP sure to lead the government in the state, the party will take the political issue seriously, he asserted.

Earlier, attending the BJP rally at 59th Seyochung A/C, the MoS Home alleged that the area was backward due to government inactivity.

“Even if Delhi government give special economic package to Nagaland if government in state is not transparent and if politicians are corrupt no development can take place,” he further maintained.

Rijjiju further noted that Eastern Nagaland has many complex problems, and therefore, the Prime Minister is coming to address a public rally in Tuensang. Modi is scheduled to address a rally in Tuensang on February 22.
