Senior Congress leader from Assam, Pradyut Bordoloi on Monday launched a scathing attack on the BJP led Central government for allegedly nurturing anti-people and anti-Northeast policies and said that the BJP is “trying to rule Mizoram by proxy”.

Bordoloi, the vice president of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, who arrived in Aizawl to take part at a nation-wide protest against fuel price hike here on Monday alleged that the BJP government and “its driving forces-the RSS” are all against the people of North East and they have been trying to throttle the region by removing the special category status, abolishing the NEIIPP and funding pattern of 90:10 which were given by the Congress government earlier.

He was addressing a demonstration in front of Vanapa Hall in Aizawl to protest price hike.

Bordoloi alleged that “the BJP, knowing that the people of Mizoram do not like it”, is now trying to forge alliance with local regional parties like Mizo National Front (MNF).

“The BJP and RSS will not come to a fore front to fight assembly elections but would like to prop up MNF in the front and will try to rule Mizoram by proxy,” he said, adding that the BJP at the Centre would use MNF as a “scapegoat” to rule Mizoram.

“This is the reason why the MNF has not been protesting against the anti-people policies of the BJP government in Delhi,” he added.

It may be mentioned that MNF is the member of BJP led Northeast Democratic Alliance (NEDA), which was formed with a sole objective to establish Congress free government in the NE region.

However, both the MNF and state BJP had earlier said they would not forge pre-poll alliance but contest election alone.

The Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Monday joined Bharat bandh by staging demonstration near Vanpa Hall in Aizawl.

Speaking to media persons at a press conference after the protest, Brodoloi said there has been a series of anti-people policies since the establishment of BJP government at the Centre in 2014. He also alleged that the country has been going through a series of reversals even since the BJP came into power in Delhi.

“Prime Minister Modi’s irrational action of demonetization and unplanned implementation of GST have almost crippled the economy so much so that all sectors in the economy that usually generate income and employment have gone into coma,” he alleged. He also said that due to sheer mismanagement of the BJP government, fuel sector is experiencing unprecedented price rise.

Citing an example, he said while the price of international crude oil price was 107 US dollar in March 2014, the Congress government could sell petrol at Rs 70 per litre. On the other hand, in September this year the international crude oil price was around 70 US dollar, but petrol is being sold above Rs 80 per litre. He added that the cost of the LPG also increased from Rs 380 in 2014 to Rs 960 this year under the BJP government.

The former minister of Assam alleged that the BJP and RSS don’t believe in pluralism “but try to impose the ideology of Hindutva and subjugate the people of North East”.

The BJP does not give priority to the interest of the common people but the industrialists and the capitalists, he also said.
