Businesses run without trade license: SN

Dimapur, February 3 (MExN): The Survival Nagaland has alleged that most of the shops at Naga Shopping Arcade (Super Market) in Dimapur are allotted in Naga names, but sublet to others who are running various types of businesses like pharmacies, groceries, essential stores, pan shops, xerox and lamination shops etc. “without any trade license or any other residential proofs.”
The volunteers of Survival Nagaland (SN) found this during a cross verification drive in the area on the evening of February 2, a press release from the Media Cell of SN informed.
According to the release, many shop owners possessed fake driving licenses, PAN Cards etc., which were obtained after getting a residential proof certificates from GBs/Chairmen around the vicinity for a mere Rs.50/-. The traders mostly from Karimganj district of Assam said the certificates could be easily procured anytime, the release said.
The SN also pointed out that even the Arcade’s courtyards were mostly occupied by “these hawkers and vendors without any documents making our local vegetable sellers mostly Naga women without any place to sell their goods…”
Warning the printing press who are making fake driving licenses and other documents in connivance with some “unscrupulous” Nagas and selling to IBIs, SN further questioned the state medical department how such a high number of “IBIs” got hold of certificates to open and run medical stores. It said it will demand the name lists of license holders around the state in the coming weeks through an RTI.
Survival Nagaland, the release reminded, is a movement to “safeguard our land and coming generations and not against any community, religion or group but to instill work culture and dignity of labor among the Nagas.”
