Butchers cheating customers, NVCO alleges

Kohima, January 6 (MExN): The Nagaland Voluntary Consumers Organisation (NVCO) today charged the butchers in Kohima for cheating customers when weighing meat by putting extra metal on scales.

NVCO President, Kezhokhoto Savi, in a press statement, stated that the alleged incident took place on January 3, 2018 when he and his wife were purchasing meet at a butcher shop located at Sukrozie, BOC market next to KP Bethasda Hospital Building, Kohima.

Condemning the incident, NVCO Press & Media Cell stated that the butchers had put more than 300 grams weight on their scale to increase the weight of meat.

The Organisation maintained that earlier, KMC had raised the rate of Pork from Rs.180/- per kg to Rs.200/- per kg with an assurance that the butchers would be honest to consumers especially in their measurement.

Therefore, NVCO had appealed the department concerned, district administration and KMC to take actions against the butchers who were cheating the consumers on weight measurement, charging high-price, not allowing the buyers to take their own choice of meat portion, etc. “Time to time surprise checking is necessary,” the cell added.
