DIMAPUR, JUNE 25 (MExN): Bethesda Youth Welfare Center (BYWC), Dimapur distributed nutritional support to BPL families affected by drug abuse on Saturday, June 25. The centre held a programme today at its Female Health Delivery Service centre located at West Yard’s Evening bazaar on account of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which will be observed on June 26.  This year’s theme is ‘Think Health not Drugs’. The nutritional food items were funded under Project I-81 of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
The beneficiaries were those women and children who are negatively affected as a result of a family member abusing drugs. Fifteen such families received the nutritional support, a BYWC worker said. Under the UNODC’s project, the worker said that they have on their target to reach out 280 women who are into drugs or those who are partially or directly affected as a result of her male partner abusing drugs. They have 80 ‘female injecting drug users’ and 200 ‘partners or female spouses of male IDUs’ on its targeted list.
