Congress president of Mizoram and former Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla on Monday urged the people of Mizoram to seek divine intervention so that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is scrapped and Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is not introduced.
According to him, CAA is harmful for Mizoram "as it would have severe impact on the religion and traditions of the indigenous people.”
He made the statement while addressing a function at the Congress Bhawan today. He said that CAA can be compared to the “Biblical 666” (a number associated with the Devil in Christianity) as it concerns not only with politics but also religion.
“Though the CAA exempts Inner Line Permit areas and Scheduled areas of the North-east, including Mizoram, the BJP-led NDA government can lift the ILP any time,” he alleged.
He further alleged that the Centre’s move on Jammu and Kashmir, dividing the state into two union territories, clearly indicated that the BJP government can revoke the ILP any time if it wishes.
The Congress leader also alleged that the BJP government is also trying to introduce Uniform Civil Code in the country.
“The Citizenship Amendment Act and Uniform Civil Code are nothing but the BJP’s agenda to establish Hindu Rashtra in the country,” he said.
