CADC abolition in YMA agenda despite Speakers appeal

Aizawl, October 17 (PTI): An apex body of the Mizos has decided to include abolition of the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) through legal means in its agenda for the YMA general conference beginning today.   The Young Mizo Association (YMA) has decided to go ahead with its plan despite having received a letter from Mizoram Assembly Speaker Hiphei on September 26 requesting it not to include the issue in its agenda.   President of the central committee of the YMA Lalbiakzuala said, the matter will be on their agenda despite the speakers request.   Hiphei, in his letter to Lalbiakzuala, had requested him not to include the Chakma issue in the agenda of the YMA general conference as it could create tension among the communities in the state and also endanger the existence of two other autonomous district councils - the Lai Autonomous District Council and the Mara Autonomous District Council.   Lalbiakzuala, however, said that inclusion of the matter in the agenda would not encourage violent or communal approach and intimidation.   The proposed agenda said that the central committee of the YMA should take legal steps to abolish the CADC as it was created "illegally and unconstitionally." The general conference will be held at Zotlang village in Champhai district bordering Myanmar.
