Camp for Persons with Speech & Hearing Disabilities held

Mokokchung, November 17 (MExN): Two days diagnostic cum fitment camp for Persons with Speech and Hearing Disabilities was organized by Care and Support Society Mokokchung in collaboration with Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Speech and Hearing Disabilities (DIVYANGJAN), Eastern Regional Centre, Kolkata, Under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DIVGANJAN), Ministry of MSJ & E at IMDH, Mokokchung on November 16 and 17.  

Himanshu Kumar, Lecturer in Speech and Hearing from AYJNISHD, Eastern Regional Centre, Kolkata spoke about the ADIP scheme and how persons with hearing disabilities can be benefitted by the scheme.  

Under this scheme, persons with hearing disabilities are given digitally programmable behind the ear hearing aids. Those persons with disabilities having a monthly income of upto Rs. 15000/- per month are given aids and appliances completely free of cost and those with a monthly income of within Rs. 15001 to Rs. 20000/- are provided aids and appliances at 50 percent discount. He also spoke about the cochlear implant surgery programme initiated by AYJNISHD under the ADIP scheme. He shared that cochlear implant can be done free of cost to children below 5 years old. Students below 10 can get assistive device once in every year if it gets spoiled, for adult once in three years.  

Around 55 PwDs did the registration and 44 PWDs received assistive device free of cost which cost Rs. 25000.
