Campaign on plastic ban begins in Chiephobozou

Kohima, September 18 (MExN): An awareness campaign on statewide total ban on single use of plastics with effect from October 1 under Chiephobozou sub-division kick started at a programme held at DB's Court, Chiephobozou on September 18.


As per DIPR report, HODs of all departments under the Sub-Division, owners of all establishments, heads of schools, pastors of churches, GBs of Chiephobozou town and all neighboring villages attended the programme.


Exhorting the gathering, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Chiephobozou, Vekhoyi Chakhesang encouraged all to adopt eco friendly habits like carrying own water bottles, shopping bags, practising waste segregation and to create awareness at community level.


Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) Office Secretary, Zakiekhotuo Kiso also highlighted the experiences of KMC on waste management so far. 


Directo, Earth Friendly Generation, Chiephobozou, Keduolhoukho emphasized on using banana leaves to make plates and cups as an alternative of Styrofoam plates and cups. He added that it would be biodegradable and further creates employment opportunities for the local youth as well.


The awareness campaign under the sub-division will continue till September 30 and will be held at various locations covering all the villages under the sub-division. To indicate the feasibility of the ban on single use of plastic, refreshments were served in banana leaves and biodegradable cups made of corn starch.


The programme was chaired by SDO (C) Chiephobozou, Samuel Thyug while invocation was pronounced by Chiephobozou Baptist Church Pastor, Dziesetuolie Chadi and presentation on plastic ban was given by EAC Chiephobozou, Dziesengunuo Mere.
