CAN condemns village’s refusal to bury catholic woman

Kohima, August 16 (MExN): The Catholic Association of Nagaland has expressed profound concern at the increasing trend of inter-denominational intolerance and discrimination.

CAN referred to the ongoing dissension at Leingangching village in Ukhrul district and stated that the villagers refusing entry for burial rites of late Rita Hairi for being a catholic by faith is a “reprehensible act”.

In a strongly worded message, CAN stated that the villagers’ denial of a burial to a fellow human being for over seven days is “outrageous and despicable”, and added that the act is “totally and utterly unchristian in character.”

In this regard, CAN appealed to all to disapprove such sectarian prejudices and to forge a peaceful resolution to bury the mortal remain without delay and pave the way for resettlement of the displaced families back to their rightful place.
