CAN Youth honors Zavekho Tetseo on National Youth Day

Dimapur, January 13 (MExN): On National Youth Day – January 12 – CAN Youth, an NGO based in Dimapur which works for youth and children development honored Zavekho Tetseo for his hard works “which is inspirational to many youth.”

A native of Lozaphusu village and presently residing in Bade village, Dimapur, Zavekho is really passionate about cane and bamboo craft, informed a press release from Zhove Lohe, CAN Youth secretary.

After the demise of his brother and sister-in-law, Zavekho was shouldered with the responsibility of looking after his niece and nephew. Being a high school dropout and with just a little source of income, he had to get into manual labour which granted him just Rs. 400-Rs. 500 a day, it said.

However, in 2015, Zavekho enrolled himself in a vocational training organized by an NGO for two full weeks for unemployed and uneducated youths. He opted for cane crafting.

“He perfected his skill during the course of training and after that he started to make crafts with his own idea which he would sell to supplement his income,” the press release said. “But due to financial crisis and lack of raw materials in the village and nearby, his skill and talent had to be put to rest. He had to go back to laboring.”

For a short duration, he got a chance to train youths of the village with the help of some NGOs in exchange for small amount of money, it was informed.

CAN Youth informed that Zavekho has a dream of setting up a small cane craft industry where he could portray his skills and also make way for those who are skilled and interested in cane and bamboo craft, but are drawn back due to their economic status.

Currently, CAN Youth is supporting him to promote his products and also providing monthly scholarship for his nephew’s education.

“Indeed Zavekho is no less than a hero because before his needs and wants he selflessly prioritizes the needs of his niece and nephew…Thus, Zavekho sets a beautiful example that even though he can’t do great things for his loved ones, he with great love, is doing the best he can for them,” the press release read.

The CAN Youth saluted him for his tremendous works and for “becoming inspiration to many youth.”
