Students encouraged to think big, develop hard work culture and perseverance

Kohima, May 13 (MExN): The Zapami village council and students’ union conducted career guidance and counselling seminar for students of the village on May 12 at Heritage Hall, Zapami village.


Dr. Hovithal Sothu, Deputy Director (Training) and Course Coordinator (NCS), Administrative Training Institute (ATI), Nagaland was the speaker, while NCS and NSS 2016 batch probationers were the resource persons.


In the introductory session, Sothu appreciated the village community for organizing the seminar and encouraged the gathering to continue to uphold the unity as it is the greatest community asset and strength. Stating that nothing in life is achieved easily, he challenged them that one must work hard to realize one’s dream in life.


He called on the students to think big in life and develop hard work culture and perseverance, which he said are very important to be successful.


A press release from programme coordinator Kelhikha Kenye further quoted the speaker as saying that it is through hard work and sheer sacrifice the NCS and NSS probationers present in the seminar were successful.


While lauding the village for having strong concerted team spirit and unity, he urged the students to take up the challenge of civil service exam as power and development come from administration since they make policy for the government.


Sothu also shared his life experiences – how he struggled in life coming from a very humble beginning to get to where he is today.


He meanwhile encouraged the students not to be disheartened by the number of unemployment in the State as there is always job avenue for those who work hard and prepare themselves well in life.


“Getting book knowledge is easy, to become educated is hard but to achieve one’s dream in life is really hard where one will have to really work hard to get it,” he added.


He concluded his speech by challenging the student participants to dream big and work hard to succeed in life.


Riku Khutso, EAC (P) and Kevethito Rose EAC (P) also shared their experiences in the introductory session, which was led by Dr. Wemeri Khutsoh, senior specialist, District Hospital Wokha.


The career guidance and counselling session was conducted in groups of four categories of students and civil service aspirants with NCS and NSS 2016 batch probationers from ATI as the resource persons.


In the afternoon, interactive session was held between the NCS and NSS 2016 batch team and Zapami VDB state award winning team along with the village leaders. The village council and VDB team was led by Er. Lhiwepe Khutso during whose tenure the government of Nagaland awarded state best VDB award in 2017.


The team from ATI Kohima was enlightened on how the idea of constructing Heritage Museum in Zapami village was conceptualized through MGNREGA scheme to preserve cultural heritage and promote tourism in the village.


The VDB team also shared the village development work programmes and other plans.


Altogether, 15 NCS and 30 NSS 2016 batch probationers from ATI Kohima led by Dr. Hovithal Sothu participated in the seminar and interaction programme.


Meanwhile, 154 students from class 7 and above from the village attended the seminar.
