Lukikhe village (Aghunato) under Zunheboto district celebrated 125 years of its establishment with Secretary Land Resources and Finance Department, Y. Kikheto Sema IAS as the chief guest.

Speaking at the celebration, Kikheto observed that Lukikhe village was among the best villages to be judiciously and transparently utilizing MGNREGA funds for community development such as construction of school building, play grounds, concrete roads, village gate etc.

“In my visit to many villages, I have never seen this much of positive developmental project undertaken by any VDB which is being supported by the village leaders, GBs and free will donations. I will definitely convey your good works to the responsible authorities,” he added.

“Development comes due to the sincerity and honesty of the village leaders and government funding is provided for the purpose of carry out such positive activities,” he said and added that government would be encouraged to give more support to any performing beneficiaries.

Stating that the coming of Nagas to Nagaland could be less than 700 years, Kikheto said God had His purpose in bringing them to this part of the land. Although Naga people take pride in various traditional practices including head hunting, he said, people should introspect as to whether hunting for heads was an honourable practise. “Our forefathers regarded it as a prize whenever they brought home a hunted human head but God’s plan to send American missionaries to the Nagas changed this particular way of life and the coming of British administration brought positive changes,” he added.

Kikheto said Naga people would have annihilated themselves if the word of God did not reach Nagaland and also wondered whether Nagas would have embraced Shintoism (Japanese religion) if Japan was to be successful in its invasion during the 2nd World War.

But now the Nagas are protected under the Indian Constitution which provides protection to the Naga culture, tradition, religion and ways of life, he stated.

Kikheto called upon all to support the ongoing peace process between the Government of India and various Naga national political groups.

Sumi Hoho President, Hekushe also lauded Lukikhe for judiciously utilizing MGNREGA funds. He also thanked the chief guest for his concern for the Sumi community and Naga people.

Among others, GBs and Church leaders of Aghunato area attended the jubilee celebrations. The chief guest was accompanied by President and office bearers of Sumi Hoho, former office bearers of Sumi Hoho, Sumi Kukami Hoho office bearers and Sumi elders. The chief guest earlier unveiled the monolith of concrete road and public ground and also released the jubilee souvenir.
