Celebrating 75 glorious years of Zunheboto Township

Zunheboto, November 14 (MExN): Zunheboto Town, the location of the largest Baptist church in Asia, the Sumi Baptist Church, celebrated 75 years of the township establishment on November 14, 2017 at the local ground.


To add more significance to the day, the organising committee of Zunheboto Town Platinum Jubilee also celebrated Ahuna Festival- the traditional post-harvest festival of the Sumis. Ahuna signifies the celebration of the season’s harvest in Thanksgiving, while invoking the spirit of good fortune.


A press release issued by Zunheboto Town Platinum Jubilee, Media cell informed that as part of the celebration, presentation in honour of founders, pioneers and former Deputy Commissioners of Zunheboto town were done by Kiyelho Yepthomi while Dr. H. Sukhato Rotokha was selected as best citizens for his contribution towards the district.


Cultural activities included Ami Kukula from DC Hill Colony, Ghile Qhesho from Old Town Colony, Ahuna Kibbe from South Point West, Ghishole from Khuwaboto Colony, Apighi Lakujjo from New Colony, Aphilo Kuwwo from South Point East. Advisor, Pukhayi Assumi, Advisor, Hukavi Zhimomi, DC, Tridibesh Roy, DIG, KK Chishi, SP, U.Kichu, Commandant 5th AR, Keishan Debendra, 2i/c, Gopa Kumar, all HODs, President, Sumi Hoho, Hekushe Shikhu and other prominent leaders attended the celebration.


The programme was chaired by Co-convenor, Organising committee, Kiyelho Yepthomi, Huskha Yepthomi spoke on the significance of Ahuna festival, welcome address was delivered by Vice-President, Sumi Hoho, Vihoshe Muru, talent show from Olympic Hr Sec School, Choreography was performed by Head Hunters, Laghilato while vote of thanks was proposed by Secretary, Organising Committee, Lhokiye Yepthomi.


NAGA POLITICAL ISSUE: Frontal orgs to meet soon


On Naga political issue, the Minister, National Highways and Political Affairs, G. Kaito Ayem today disclosed that a meeting with all Naga frontal organisations will be convened shortly in Kohima for which the Minister made an appeal to Sumi community to give endorsement and support for early settlement of the Naga Political issue.


Minister G. Kaito Ayem was addressing the 75 years of Zunheboto Town cum Ahuna Festival celebration on November 14, 2017 at Zunheboto as the chief guest.


Lamenting that investors are not ready to invest in Nagaland due to many factors, Kaito urged the Nagas to create free and peaceful atmosphere to boost the economy, promote tourism and bring about resilient development in society.


Speaking on the need for Clean Election in the state, the minister said, every electorate should ensure free and clean participation during election. Kaito urged the Sumi Hoho and all other frontal organisation to actively create awareness in all constituencies, cutting across political parties in the district on the need and the benefit of Clean Election in the long run.


Highlighting on the developmental activities in the state, the minister added, Mariani-Mokokchung-Zunheboto-Chozuba-Jessami National Highway has been sanctioned and execution of work has began. He was optimist that Dimapur-Showba-Niuland-Wokha-Zunheboto-Aghunato-Shamator Noklak-Phangsa National Highway is likely to be sanctioned in February 2018 for which he urged the citizens to welcome development activities by providing land free of cost.
