Centurion FC lift 19th NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy 2018

Centurion FC Kohima Village today lifted the champion title of 19th NSF Martyr’s Memorial Trophy 2018 organized by Angami Students’ Union with the theme “Goal for Peace.”  

They emerged champion after defeating Meriema Village Youth Organisation 2-1.  

Medoneituo Sekhose opened the account for Centurion in the 18th minute while Vekhruto Resü added another goal to the tally after coming in from the bench in the second session of the match.  

The lone late goal for MVYO was scored by Kekhriengulie Usoü in the 85th minute.  

The champion and runners-up walked away with a cash award of Rs. 2 Lakh and Rs. 1.2 lakh sponsored by Naga Students’ Federation and Er.Vikenyü Zütso respectively.  

Vikethozo Zhotso of Centurion FC was adjudged the Player of the Tournament and awarded with a two-wheeler sponsored by Khrielievi Chüsi.  

Vikeduolie Lhousi of Meriema VYO was adjudged as the Best Midfielder, and Daveikho Maizamo of Senapati FC Manipur as the Best Defender, while Rhitso Mero of Kohima Eagles FC received the Highest Scorer award with 10 goals. The Best Keeper was awarded to Eshong Khulum of Tribal Brothers.  

The prizes for the individual categories were sponsored by Kohima Bar Association, Keviselhou Sekhose, Advocate Asangla Walling and G Vashum respectively.  

The tournament flag was later de-hoisted and handed over to ASU President Visako Rino by the Convener Organising Committee Voto Neikha, symbolising the end of the 19th Edition.  

Gracing the closing function as the special invitee, Er Zale Neikha, Advisor for Department of Youth & Sports Resources maintained that NSF trophy is one of the most renowned tournaments in the state, even attracting teams from other neighbouring states.  

“As a young and enthusiastic footballer, I grew up witnessing this tournament. And today, I feel honoured to be your special invitee and be a part of this memorial trophy,” he added.  

Astro-turf ‘soon’ at IG Stadium

Meanwhile, the DYRS Advisor assured that an Astro-turf football ground will ‘soon’ be laid at Indira Gandhi Stadium.  

The facility will be provided either by the end of this year or early next year, he informed.   Neikha also lauded the ASU for taking the initiative to organize the tournament for the last 19 years.  

Meanwhile, the organizers have expressed its gratitude to all the sponsors, match patrons, participating teams, fans, Media Fraternity, Medical Department, well-wishers and everyone associated with the tourney for their support and cooperation.  

A host of dignitaries including Advisor Rural Development (RD), Dr Neikiesalie Nicky Kire and DUDA Advisor N Bongkhao Konyak attended the grand finale.
