Kohima, September 14 (MExN): MLA Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu graced the golden jubilee celebration of Chakhesang Student's Union, Shillong (CSUS) in Shillong on September 14.

Speaking on the occasion, he congratulated and offered his hearty felicitation to all the pioneers, founding members, all the past and present community, students and family of CSU Shillong for their selfless services rendered and for having contributed to the achievements of the Union throughout the past 50 years of its existence.

Reminding them of the momentous significance of the celebration, he stated that jubilee is a time to reflect on the past achievements as well as to introspect and chart the path to meet the challenges that lies ahead.

He said that the basic foundation of a robust and progressive society is strong human resource development.
Any person who is disciplined, sincere and committed, hard working and goal-oriented are the ones that automatically surge ahead of others in life, Azo said.

Encouraging the entire community to work hard, he said “because at the end of the day, it is  only hard work that pays off and there is no substitute for hard work.”

Proposing a three-rule methodology for evolving as a successful student, he said, firstly, the top priority of a student should be given to God first.

Secondly, one needs to chalk out a study routine frame. One should set his/her calendar of priorities and stick to it. The ideals of any student would be to say ’No’ to habitual partying, extreme socializing or engaging oneself and wasting precious time in worldly and momentary pleasures.

The third rule is, to never lose sight of the purpose of study or purpose of being in Shillong.

Identifying that today’s Millennial youth live in a world filled with complexities- a world that has become increasingly challenging - socially, mentally, emotionally, technologically, he implored, ”do not allow the present day problems of this world to overwhelm or drown you.”

He exhorted that instead of becoming victims of technology, smart phones, social media, the internet etc, today’s generation should focus on taking command of technology and utilize the time spent on internet/social media as a means of developing entrepreneurship, self-employment and also, very importantly, to use the influence of social media to bring about social changes and transformation, in other words, not abusing the same and drowning ourselves in it.

Calling attention to the dire need of generating employment, Azo motivated the youth to think out of the box, to come out of their comfort zones, to learn the art of entrepreneurship and to venture out into the private sector... to explore the unexplored. In that context, he pointed out that some of the areas a student of today's generation might want to focus on to secure their future are - self-sustenance, self-employment, self-reliance, skill development, innovative entrepreneurial development.

Stating that government is not the only employer, he said “For how long can one depend on a Govt. and to what extent and the Government also accommodate? Why not become employers instead of being employees?”
Further, Azo said that the true aim of pursuing education is not just excelling in one’s own chosen field but attaining true education in the real sense, would mean to become responsible citizens fully equipped with social consciousness, acquiring socially reflective and analytical thinking abilities, tailored to challenge the prevailing inhibitions, norms and systems - becoming agents of change.
