Tuensang, January 13 (MExN): The Chang community celebrated Poang Lum (Winter Festival) at Loyem Memorial Ground, Tuensang organised by Chang Khulei Setshang on January 12 and 13 with the theme ‘Enveloping Peace in Oneness.’ C Ebou Chang, Vice President, Chang Gazetted Officers Association graced the celebration as guest of honour.
The guest of honour in his speech said that the Poang Lum marks the celebration of self-sufficiency. Referring to the past history, he said that it was the celebration of the bountiful harvest but today it marks the academic success, profitable business and prosperous living. He encouraged the community to work hard with commitment so that the meaningful celebration of Poang Lum can be organized. He also added that the celebration is also a way to nurture our rich culture and tradition through which we can preserve our culture and tradition.
The speaker also used the metaphor of festivals to that of the spirit of the community, where he added to preserve and nurture the festival so that the community shall exist to live and progress. Poang Lum is a festival of gift exchange and merry making; comparatively he also encouraged the community to love their neighbors so that peaceful scenario can co-exist.
I.L Chingmak, Former Minister and N Chingmak PA to DC also delivered short speeches in the programme. The welcome address was addressed by MP Nokshang President CKS while B. Tabitha Chang and Music Team (BYE TTBL) performed special numbers. The formal programme was followed by the cultural extravaganza.
