Chief Minister unveils NAYO silver jubilee monolith

  KOHIMA, DECEMBER 5 (MExN): The Northern Angami Youth Organisation (NAYO) today celebrated its 25th anniversary cum Stone Pulling ceremony at the Northern Angami Centre, Chiephobozou.   The anniversary was celebrated with pomp and gaiety with thousands of men and women clad in traditional attires marking the celebration more eventful, colourful and remarkable not only for the well-wishers but also for the tourists coming from outside the state.   Earlier, at the formal programme, Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, who was also host of the event, expressed gratitude to the pioneers and founding members of the organization. Emphasising on the role of youth, he mentioned that youths are the backbone of the society. A society is strong and united as long as the youth organization is united. He reiterated that once the society was embraced on ‘might is right’ but now it has changed into ‘Right is Might’ with the coming of knowledge and transformation taking place constantly.   He urged all the youths to have a set of vision and maintain unity and integrity as the symbol of their lives. He said that Naga society today has been divided into many organisations and there is a difference in opinions. Therefore, he urged the youths to develop unity and understanding not only within themselves but also in society at large.

  MLA and co-host, Khriehu Liezietsu while addressing the gathering said jubilee is a time to remember the past achievements and also to rectify the mistakes committed hitherto. He further mentioned that jubilee is a time to forgive one another and introspect the future with unity and understanding.   He meanwhile also hoisted the NAYO Silver Jubilee flag at Meriema on December 5. The Flag was hoisted in commemoration of the first NAYO Conference held at Meriema.   While hoisting the flag, Khriehu said that 25 years ago, NAYO was founded at Meriema village and thanked the people of the village on the occasion. He also expressed happiness on the completion of 25 years of NAYO’s existence.   Meriema Village Council Chairman, Kelhoupralie in his speech thanked the pioneers of the Northern Angami area for their initiatives towards the foundation of NAYO at Meriema village for the people of Northern Angami. He also thanked the Northern Angami and NAYO Office bearers for acknowledging the village with the hoisting of the flag on the occasion.   First NAYO President, Prasilie Pienyu, who also spoke on the occasion mentioned that the role of youths in this fast changing world is very important to shape the society into a better platform to live in. He appealed all the youths to maintain unity and understanding as they were in the coming days.   AYO President, Neinguvotuo Krose said the role of today’s youth is to look after the welfare of the people besides protecting “our people and land.”   Earlier, the Chief Minister unveiled the monolith. Vice President, NAYO, Rukravolie Rulho chaired the programme at the inaugural programme while Pastor, Ebenezer Baptist Church, Kohima, Rev Keviyiekielie Linyu invoked God’s blessing at the stone unveiling ceremony.   Special numbers were presented by Keneisedenuo Ztsu & sister and Cultural Vibrant Kohima. President, NAYO, Neizolie Rupreo delivered the presidential address while General Secretary NAYO, Mhasimhalie Yhome proposed the vote of thanks. Parish Priest, St. John the Evangelist Church, Rev. Fr. Solomon Vizo offered the benedictory prayer.   At the stone pulling ceremony Member Organising Committee, Kekhrievolie Keyho chaired the programme while Pastor, Baptist Church Chiechama, Rev. Sonei-u Metha invoked God’s blessing.
