Kohima, June 13 (MExN): The CHILDLINE Kohima observed the World Day against Child Labour 2018 by taking a transact walk in and around the city to create awareness on the evils of child labour on June 13. The team highlighted the need for concerted and integrated approach to eliminating child labour and the need to create an enabling environment where a child should get all the protection and care needed for his or her overall development.
Safety check on child labourer
It was stated in a press release that CHILDLINE team along with friends and volunteers of CHILDLINE visited vulnerable places like local vehicle workshops, hotels, shops, garbage dump areas etc. The objective is to make a safety check on child labourer in these work places and to acquaint owners and employers on child labour act and the consequences of violation of the act. The team conducted one to one interactions, small group meetings with the owners and workers and also distributed Child Labour related IEC material.
A future without child labour
The second part of the programme was an awareness meeting conducted at Night Tuition Centre, D. Khel, Kohima Village attended by children, leaders and elders of the community. The highlights of the programme was screening of documentary film on CHILD LABOUR produced by CHILDLINE INDIA FOUNDATION and presentation of Child Labour Act.
“It is our plea that as the world strive to achieve elimination of child labour by 2025, let us join forces, act together to make the ‘Future of Work – A future without child labour,’” CHILDLINE Kohima added in the press note.
