Children introduced to ‘weapons’, courtesy R-Ray

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 27 (MExN): The Sectors and Units under HQ IGAR(South) celebrated  India’s 62nd Republic Day and organized various events  on January 26 in their respective locations with a section of locals.
At Joupi, a pipe band display was conducted by 37 Assam Rifles followed by health checkup of the children of the area by a medical team. Besides a “Know your Army” exhibition was also organized to “motivate” the youth of the area.
Similar functions were organised at Sehlon and Samtal by 36 Assam Rifles. Friendly sports matches with the youth clubs of villages were organised by 17 Assam Rifles followed by interaction with villagers. Prizes were awarded to the all participating teams and gifts, sweets distributed to the children.
28 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector celebrated Republic Day at Thiyam Konjin Junior High School, Lilong. The function was started with unfurling of India’s national flag followed by their national anthem. The children of school showed utmost zeal and enthusiasm in various arts and events.    
Meanwhile, the 12   Maratha Light Infantry organised infantry “weapons display” for school children of Malom, Changanghai and Tulihal. The display was followed by a dog display presented by the Explosive Detection dogs, Rambo and Lucy of the unit.
Further, a ten week medical training on first aid for the locals of the villages by 37 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR (South)  concluded at Joupi  on January 25. The trainees were appreciated and felicitated by Major General CA Krishnan, IGAR(S). During the closing ceremony, IGAR(S) presented medical kit bags comprising stethoscope, BP Measuring instrument, thermo meter, dressing instruments, a book on First Aid and medicines to the trainees.
