Kiphire | November 29 : Chomi, one of the biggest villages having a household of 467 in Pungro sub division, under Kiphire district celebrated Orange Festival today. Parliamentary Secretary CAWD, T. Torechu was the chief guest.

While acknowledging Torekiu who brought ten saplings of Oranges from Longjang village under Mokokchung district in 1958, the parliamentary secretary said, it is all because of the visionary person like him who took trouble in bringing this ‘alien fruit’ to the village so we could enjoy the fruit of his blessings.
The parliamentary secretary also requested the Horticultural and allied Land Resources department to provide only oranges saplings so that Chomi will produce tones and tones of oranges. Sharing his vision the chief guest said, Oranges of Chomi should not only be sold in Kiphire or Nagaland, but it should find its market in India and challenged the villagers to fulfill this and assure that he is with them in any developmental works and assure that cold storage will be constructed if the production is enough.
