Christianity transformed Nagas: Pusa

Kohima, February 4 (MExN): Former president of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) KV Pusa has attributed the ‘transformation of Naga society’ to the emergence of Christianity in Nagaland.
Speaking at the introductory session of the ongoing Southern Angami Students’ Union in Pfuchama village this evening, Pusa said the Naga society was introduced to the outside world through Christianity. The Congress leader was speaking on the theme ‘Western impact on Angami culture.’
He said today Nagas are at par with the rest of world due to Christianity which also brought along education with it. He said there was rapid transformation of the Naga society when the west came with Christianity and education.
However, the MLA regretted at the degeneration of the Naga culture as an impact of western cultures and has taken toll on the Naga society in many aspects. He urged Naga students not to give up the ‘goods of our forefathers’; rather they should emulate it. He lamented that honesty and the hardworking ways of the Naga forefathers have been slowly eroding from the Naga way of life. ‘We Nagas were hardworking people’ he said. He urged modern Naga youths to be honest and hardworking to excel in life.
The Congress leader also urged students not to opt for ‘Naga jobs’ alone but to find other better avenues. Jobs in the government sector have reached saturation point, he said and suggested that entrepreneurship would be a better avenue for the Naga youths.
