Chumu VC & VBD appeal for Aadhaar Enrolment Center

Chumukedima, September 11 (MExN): The Block Development Office, along with Village Council Chairman and the VDB secretaries under RD Block Chumukedima held a consultative meeting at Naithu Resort, Dimapur on September 8.

A press release issued by Medoviekoza, President, VDB Secretary Association, RD Block Chumukedima stated that the meeting was held to deliberate over the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), Public Fund Management System (PFMS) introduced by the Central Government. The BDO explained the funding system under DBT and PFMS.

After thorough deliberation, the members present expressed their apprehension that if the DBT and PFMS are implemented with immediate effect, the illiterate and ignorant job card holders of the far flung rural areas will become victims instead of getting benefit out of it.

They cited that majority of the job card holders under MGNREGS have no aadhaar card as some did not know that it would become mandatory to link aadhaar card with bank accounts and job cards numbers, while some did not make due to inaccessible to the Aadhaar enrollment center based at the District HQ and another reason was due to rush in the Aadhaar Enrolment Center.

The Association also stated that at present the damage of bridges, deplorable road conditions, frequent traffic congestions and the rise of transportation charges/fares are adding plights for the poorest of the poor people living in the remote areas.

In view of the above reasons, the members present appealed to the department concerned and the District administration to set up Aadhaar Enrollment Center at the Block centers or to launch Aadhaar enrolment drive in the rural areas at the earliest to ensure that all the poor willing workers can obtain their aadhaar card.
