Church leaders trained, sensitized on HIV & AIDS

Dimapur, April 16 (MExN): Nagaland Development Outreach (NDO), the development wing of the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) conducted a one day training-cum-sensitization programme on HIV and AIDS for the church leaders under Sovima area on April 15 at the Sumi Baptist Church- Sovima village, supported by Catholic Relief Services (CRS).
A press note received here informed that the programme was well represented/attended by the 38 leaders from different tribe/community which included- the Pastors, Deacons, Teachers, Women and Youth. The programme started with an invocation led by Hekato, Pastor, and Sumi Baptist Church-Sovima. T. Abraham, Project Manager, Positive living Centre (NDO/PLC) gave the welcome address and highlighted the various activity and services rendered  by the NDO and at the Positive Living Centre (PLC) which is the service-delivery-centre of Life-Aid project for the People living with HIV and AIDS (PLHIV).
Jaquelin, Nurse, shared about the HIV/AIDS scenario of Nagaland and basic information on HIV/AIDS, route of transmission, its impact and consequences, Mode of prevention, Myths & Misconceptions. Vikheho, Counselor spoke on the Role of Churches in Addressing HIV & AIDS: Stigma & Discrimination. Ahimsa, Counselor, spoke on the topic-Role of Churches in Addressing HIV & AIDS: Care & Support. She spoke on importance and significance of Care & Support, meaning, role and responsibility of churches towards the PLHIV.
