‘Church should no longer ignore tobacco threats’

Dimapur, July 12 (MExN): An advocacy programme on tobacco was held in Golden Crown Theological College in Full Nagarjan, Dimapur on July 12.

Giving a presentation, Dr. C. Tetseo, district nodal officer, National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) emphasised that the people in the Church ministries can no longer ignore the problems posed by tobacco in view of the sheer number of people using it in our society. “Tobacco problem will only lead to health, economic, social and spiritual problem,” he said. He also stated that the Church ministry offers a unique platform for awareness as well as for cessation interventions.

Pamei, Lecturer, Golden Crown Theological College while admitting that people in the ministry have ignored this problem in the past, challenged the students to take this issue seriously. He also stated that anti-tobacco awareness and counselling could be included as part of the practical works for the students. During interaction, students also took part in the discussion.
