CIH trains horticulture officials

Dimapur, September 9 (MExN): Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH) organized three days training on ‘Advances in Protected and Precision Horticulture’ at CIH, Medziphema from September 6-8 for the officials of Nagaland State Horticulture Department.  

The resource persons for the training were Dr. Madhumita Choudhary, Professor and head, Department of Horticulture, AAU, Jorhat; Dr. Bijit Kr. Saut, Professor, Department of Horticulture, AAU, Jorhat; Dr. Deepa Phookan, Professor, Department of Horticulture, AAU, Jorhat; and Dr. Abhijit Borah, RE, Department of Agriculture Engineering, AAU, Jorhat.  

The training covered the concept and techniques of precision farming, importance and scope of protected cultivation with special focus on package of practices under protected cultivation on crops like capsicum, Naga King chilli, tomato, cucumber, orchid, anthurium, gerbera etc.  

The Director of CIH, Medziphema encouraged the participants to expose themselves and play an important role in imparting the knowledge and various techniques to the farmers while helping in doubling the farmers’ income through the horticulture sector which has an immense scope.  

The training concluded with distribution of certificates for both the trainers training as well as participants of three months certificate course on ‘Post Harvest Management of Horticulture’ crops.  

A total of 25 officials and staffs of Horticulture department, Government of Nagaland participated in the three-day trainers training, which was coordinated by Lichamo Yanthan, I/c Training, CIH.
