In their presentation, the team appealed to support the establishment of Lokayukta in Nagaland considering it as the need of the hour amid high rate of corrupt practices in the state.

With regard to NFSA, it was highlighted that the major population in Nagaland both rural/villages as well as urban/town is going to avail Rs.3/- per kg of rice and Rs.2/- per kg of wheat as per the implementation of National Food Security Act 2013 in Kohima and Dimapur while will be further implemented in all districts. The citizens have the right to know their due shares as beneficiaries and awareness would also help the state department to implement the Act in a more effective manner.

Food Safety & Standard Authority of India (FSSAI) has been established under Food Safety & Standard Act 2006 which has been created for laying down science based stands for articles of food and to regulate their manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import of the food articles to ensure the availability of safe and wholesome food for consumption. Food safety means the condition and practices that preserve the quality of food and to prevent the contamination of any food borne diseases, the team stated.

“As a consumer we are exploited by the traders in different ways, however as per the Act it is the duty of the Food Commissioner & Food Safety Officer to inspect and check all the shops like restaurant, hotels, bakery, vendor shop, school canteen and poultry shop from time to time to avoid unwanted things like adulterated food, misbranded and expiry of goods and the Food Business Operator (FBO) are to obtain a registration and license as to provide safety and quality of food to the Consumer.”
