‘Clean Election process starts with clean E-Roll’

Dimapur, October 20 (DIPR): Commissioner & Secretary, Municipal Affairs, M. Patton, who is also the E-roll Observer for Dimapur District held a meeting with District Administration, AEROs and political parties regarding the special Summary Revision of E-Roll at D.C. Conference Hall on October 20.  

Briefing the officials, Patton said that the process of conducting Clean Election starts with clean electoral roll. He felt that Dimapur being a heterogeneous society comprising of different tribes and communities, may face certain difficulties compared to other districts during the process. He however maintained that the rules are same for the whole country. He appealed the officials involved in the process to adhere to the rules and guidelines of the Election Commission.  

During the meeting Patton also expressed concerned over the low enrollment of young eligible voters, and also called for rectification of abnormalities in the E-roll in the district. He appealed all political parties to give special attention to the period of filling claims and objections which has been given as 3rd-31stOctober, 2017. He pointed that there have been no political parties in E-roll, but as when the election process starts they may object to certain things or voters when it will be too late for making any correction. He therefore asked the political parties to be more sincere during the period so that there will not be any problem in future. Patton during the meeting apprised of the importance of BLAs who are to be appointed by the political parties to assist the BLOs during the election process.  

During the meeting, AEROs shared their problems and the anomalies detected in their respective Polling Station, and also measures undertaken to correct the same. The meeting was conducted by Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, KesonyuYhome, IAS.
