CM Chang visits NPCB and SEFTI

Dimapur, March 18 (MExN): Minister of Environment, Forests and Climate Change & Parliamentary Affairs, CM Chang visited the Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB) office at Signal Point, Dimapur on March 17.  

The Minister interacted with the officers and staff of the Board and also visited the air and water laboratories, library and the paper recycling unit, informed a press release received here. He observed how the air and water samples are collected, analysed and highlighted to the public to create awareness.  

An informal programme was held in the Board’s conference hall where the welcome address was delivered by the chairperson Ramesh Aima (IFS) followed by an introductory session of the officers and staff of NPCB.  

The Member Secretary, Rusovil John highlighted the responsibilities, activities and functions of the Board as well as its constraints and achievements.  

According to the release, CM Chang stated the purpose of his visit was to observe and experience first-hand the functioning of the Board and to discuss how improvements may be made. He also shared his experiences as a government employee and encouraged the officers and staff to work harder to serve the public better by bringing about a better environment in the state.  

Various issues such as climate change, air and water pollution, coal mining and solid waste management were discussed during the meeting, the release added.  

Visit to SEFTI

CM Chang also visited State Environment & Forestry Training Institute (SEFTI), Dimapur on March 17 and interacted with the Forester-I trainees, faculty & staffs of the institute.  

The Minister encouraged the Forester Trainees to avail the training opportunity to the fullest to bring forth their capabilities to serve as efficient officers of the department. “One should try to acquire knowledge and not feel shy in the process,” he exhorted.  

Aima (IFS), who accompanied the minister, also motivated the gathering with his vast training experience.  

A round of informal discussion was held, where opinions and grievances were shared with the Minister. According to a press release from SEFTI Director, K Hukato Chishi, the Minister on his first visit to the institute presented an optimistic view that his ministry along with the departmental officials will try to bring out the best in the department.  

The Director of SEFTI chaired the programme.
