CM inaugurates ‘Centre for Disability Studies’ at Mizoram University

AIZAWL, JULY 5 (NNN): Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla on Thursday inaugurated ‘Centre for Disability Studies’ at Mizoram University (MZU), Tanhril near Aizawl. The event was attended by Union Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment, Krishanpal Gurjar, who is in Mizoram on an official tour.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Lal Thanhawla expressed happiness for the inauguration of disabilities studies centre in Mizoram under the joint initiative of National Institute for Locomotor Disabilities (Divyangjan), Kolkata and Department of Social Work, Mizoram University.

 

The CM said that the state government is taking efforts to improve the welfare of differently abled persons as their living condition and daily activities in the hilly state like Mizoram is highly inconvenient as compared to other states. He pointed out that the centre has planned to make “common identification card” for the differently abled people, which would help them in the field of education, physical health and political participation.

 

Union Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment, Krishanpal Gurjar who attended the inaugural function also said massive efforts would be taken to study the various problems faced by differently abled persons and to make their daily life easier. He said that every citizen has an important responsibility to help the differently abled people in order to enable them live a comfortable and easy life like the normal persons do.

 

The inaugural function of the centre was attended by many important officials including Joint Secretary in Ministry of Social justice & Empowerment, Dolly Chakravarty and Mizoram Social Welfare Secretary, Vanlalrawni.

 

The construction of the centre began in 2015 and was completed in June this year. It was funded by the Department of Persons with Disabilities under Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment.
