Coffee plantation promoted at Longleng DPDB meeting

Longleng, October 6 (DIPR): The Longleng District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) meeting was held with Deputy Commissioner Y. Denngan Avennoho Phom as the chairperson on October 6 at the DPDB conference hall here.

The DC informed about the visit of Nagaland Chief Secretary Pankaj Kumar, along with Principal Secretary, Agriculture Production Commissioner, Chairman Nagaland Bamboo Mission T. Imkonglemba Ao, and Joint Director (Wildlife), Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India Roy P. Thomas to Longleng district for celebration of Wildlife Week cum seminar on Human Animal Conflict on October 7. He called upon the DPDB members to attend the programme positively.  

The DC also informed that Intensified Mission Indradhanush, a strategic initiative for improving vaccination coverage in the district, will begin on October 9 along with the rest of the country. He urged the members to extend cooperation and support to the mission for maximum coverage of children in the district.  

Meanwhile, the DPO, Land Resource Department informed about the activities of his department and highlighted the ongoing coffee plantation projects in the district. He asserted that coffee has a big scope for generating employment opportunity in the state.  

He stressed on the technical aspects of coffee plantation and lamented that due to lack of proper technical supervision in the past, coffee plantation was unsuccessful in the state despite suitable soil and climatic condition. Taking advantage of the large scope and high quality of Naga coffee, he said the department has identified farmers and targeted some villages in the district for coffee plantation.  

The responses of the farmers, he stated, are good and the department will provide all technical and logistic support to the farmers. Therefore, he urged the officers to disseminate the information to the villagers for large scale production of coffee in the state. The DPO further highlighted about Swachh Bharat Mission initiated in the villages along with other departmental projects by giving awareness on cleanliness and healthy living.  

The Assistant Election Officer of Longleng also briefed the members regarding ongoing summary revision of e-roll, honest submission of list of government employees for election duty and use of VVPATs with EVMs during the general election 2018. He appealed to the members to extend cooperation and support to the election department for smooth conduct of elections in the district.
