‘Come forward and raise your genuine rights’

NPCC kick-start Party's mass contact tour

Dimapur, January 21 (MExN): With an earnest appeal to the people to come forward and raise their genuine rights, the NPCC today kick-started the party’s mass contact tour by addressing public meetings at Pfutsero Town and Chizami Town. The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee’s (NPCC) Mass Contact for Change Tour is scheduled from January 21 to 30.

Chairing the public meetings, Phek DCC President Mikha Kenye highlighted the purpose of the Tour Programme and called upon the people to come forward and raise their genuine rights for redressal.

He also expressed appreciation to people of Chizami Range for initiating the recent bandh as a means of public redressal to the electricity problem, a press release from the NPCC Media Cell informed.

Former MLA and General Secretary, NPCC, Medokul Sophie, according to the press note, highlighted the Party’s Roadmap and stated that the Tour was not an election campaign but an effort to have mass contact with the people; to hear their suggestions, to work together in taking the Naga people forward and to build a Vision Roadmap.

He recalled that it was in 1972 at Pfütsero that the NNO resolution for Naga Political Settlement started and said that the Chakhesang people should therefore lead the people in bringing the Solution, the release added.

“The present Government has come to a complete standstill with neither a vision for the future, nor any works programme,” the release quoted Sophie as saying. He further maintained that the elected Legislators should not use LADF and MGNREGA funds for garnering votes but use it for public development activities.

The Working President, NPCC Ayang Aonok, also highlighted that the interests of successive governments for Naga political settlement right from the inception of Statehood till the present Government.

Aonok contended that the present Government has taken a different and confusing stand by offering to resign if Naga Political settlement is reached while on the other hand, their party leaders are optimistic that TR Zeliang will continue to be the CM beyond 2018, it further noted.

Wondering where the Naga issue is headed, Aonok pointed out that for three terms, successive NPF led DAN Governments have been indulging in empty promises such as ‘Settlement’ within three months to conducting Road Shows in all the districts.

“It has finally landed in presenting bad roads, unpaid scholarships and salaries and financial deficit in successive state budgets,” the NPCC Media Cell quoted Aonok as saying.

The NPCC Working President further highlighted the Secular, Social and Democratic principles of the Congress party as against the ‘Communal, Hindu and Dictatorial’ outlook of the BJP-RSS, the Media Cell stated.

Also addressing the meetings, Vice President, NPCC, Vetetso Lasuh called upon the people to embrace the NPCC Roadmap as the People’s vision representing the stand of the Nagas by encompassing the people’s dreams irrespective of political party affiliation.
