Community Fishing Day...

Dimasa community of Bamunpukhuri Village observed Community Fishing Day at Diphu River, Bamunphuri Village, under Dimapur district on September 7. The villager performed the method of the aboriginal fishing culture in which the fishers used the roots of the fish stupefying plants to catch the paralyzed fish. The villagers hits the roots of the plants on the rhythm of the drum called Khram then mixed it at river water and catch fishes. The objectives of the event was to preserved the aboriginal Fishing culture of Dimasa and also to convey the message to peoples not to practices the method of fishing using chemical poison, dynamite or blast fishing as such destructive fishing practices result in irreversible damage to aquatic habitats and ecosystems.
