Dimapur, January 24 (MExN): Condolences and tributes have poured in from various individuals and organizations for the first Naga MP to the Rajya Sabha, Melhupra Vero who passed away on January 24 at his residence in Chakhesang colony, Dimapur. He was 85 years old.

 

Y Patton: Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton has expressed sadness at the demise of the Padmashree Awardee. Media Cell, Deputy CM in a condolence message described Vero as an efficient Parliamentarian and a highly regarded social activist, who dedicated his time for the service of the people when Nagas were going through difficult times. “In his death, we have lost a visionary and a selfless leader which will be felt dearly.” Patton on behalf of the BJP legislators shared deepest condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul to find rest in peace.

 

Temjen Imna Along: Minister & President, Nagaland State BJP unit Temjen Imna Along stated, “Losing a leader of his stature is a great loss not only to his community.” Well known for his peace-keeping missions, the Minister condoled the grieving family on their loss in this moment of sadness and prayed that the departed soul find rest “in the house of our Living God.”

 

KG Kenye: MP (Rajya Sabha) KG Kenye described him as an honest and straight forward leader, in a condolence message from PRO to MP. “Vero had sacrificed his selfless service for the cause of Naga people in different capacities.” With his departure, the Naga people has lost a tall leader and a fatherly figure, added the message. The MP along with his family members conveyed deepest condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for his soul to rest in eternal peace.

 

Neiba Kronu: Nagaland’s planning & co-ordination, land revenue and parliamentary affairs Minister Neiba Kronu stated “Today, we have lost a noble, honest and dynamic leader who was an inspiration to all the Nagas.” He conveyed deepest condolence to the bereaved family and prayed that God grant eternal peace to the departed soul.

 

K Therie: NPCC President, K Therie in a condolence message said the demise of Vero was “like a wall of protection has fallen.” He described Vero as a peaceful human, who did not see any problem as too difficult in his life, his way of taking on problems was always simple and nice.” “I want to thank Uncle for all that I am today for, I have grown up under his political shadow. The NPCC President along with his wife and children conveyed condolences to his wife and children.

 

Chingwang Konyak: NDPP President Chingwang Konyak also mourned the sudden demise of his “very good friend.” Konyak in a condolence message said they have been closely associated since the days of the NNO in the late 1960s and later on in the Congress party, and found him to be a jovial, kind-hearted person ready to sacrifice his personal comforts for the cause of the society. “The rank and file of the NDPP joins me and my family members in conveying our deepest sorrow and grief to you and your near and dear ones,” said the message addressed to his wife Kerele Losou. It prayed that God grant solace and comfort at this hour of grief and for the departed soul to rest in eternal peace.

 

W Wangyuh Konyak: “He had served the people of Nagaland as MP (RS), Minister and President, Naga Hoho among many others. His passing away has created a vacuum in Naga society in general and Chakhesang community and fraternity of parliamentarians in particular,” read a condolence message from Ex-MP (Lok Sabha) W Wangyuh Konyak. Wangyuh along with his family conveyed deepest condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.

 

NSCN (IM): The NSCN (IM) has expressed shock over the demise. “He was a stalwart Naga public leader who made a mark in his life as a person who leaves no stone unturned to show his love and concern for the Naga issue by appealing to the Naga National political groups to reconcile through the spirit of forgive and forget,” read a condolence message from Yaruiwo (Chairman) Q Tuccu. As a founder President of Naga Hoho, he undertook extensive tours in Nagaland, neighboring states and shuttling between Kohima and New Delhi. The NSCN (IM) “salute this great man of the Nagas and express condolences to the bereaved family members of M Vero who died after giving his best service for the Naga people.” Tuccu prayed that God grant strength and solace to the bereaved family and for the departed soul to rest in peace.

 

NMA: The Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) expressed deep grief and sorrow at the demise of Vero “who was an upright man, a true remarkable Naga leader, who devoted his life for the society. He was a man who had deep concern for the younger generation and a man who understood and encouraged women leaders to create space within the Naga society.” The NMA extended deepest condolences and prayed that God grant him eternal rest and peace and give strength and solace to the bereaved family.

 

CBCC: A condolence message from Chakhesang Baptist Church Council (CBCC) President, Rev Dr Dingu Kenye and Executive Secretary Reverend V Khrotso Mero said “Vero was one of the pioneer public leaders among the Chakhesang community whose leadership was well recognized both in the national and state politics…In his lifetime, M Vero proved himself to be a very accomplished public leader and had richly contributed to the upliftment of the socio-economic development of the society.” The CBCC conveyed deepest condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for God’s comfort at this hour of grief.

 

PHN: Poumai Hoho Nagaland (PHN) in a condolence message from its President PH Shesou stated Vero rendered his valuable service for the society in various capacities and as a veteran politician. “His demise is a great loss for the Nagas and his immense contributions for the Naga society will be ever remembered.” The Hoho conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul to rest in eternal peace.

 

NCD: The Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) also mourned his passing away. The NCD in a condolence message from President T Bangerloba and VP K Ghokheto Chophy stated, “We have lost an extraordinary person who showed the skills of leadership and great determination, who had more to offer in future…His legacy will stand as an example to all of us to persist in our pursuit of progress.” The NCD prayed for the departed soul to rest in God’s kingdom and to grant solace to the bereaved family.

 

CHK: The Chakhesang Hoho Kohima (CHK) said Vero was one of the tallest Naga leaders hailing from Chakhesang community. He was a towering politician and a social leader too, said the condolence message from President, CHK Theja Therieh and Publicity & Info Secretary, Pfuche Koza. “Although he is no more with us today; we believe his good legacy will continue to live on.” The Hoho on behalf of the community conveyed deepest condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for his soul to rest in peace.
