A woman Congress MLA in Manipur announced her firm stand for the protection of Manipur territorial integrity as opposition legislators joined people in staging the "alert protests" in connection with the Naga peace talks.
She said this before the people of Patsoi area of Imphal West who tried to storm her residence on Saturday night after a torch rally as part of the ongoing "alert protests" being staged under the aegis of Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI).

Meerabai observed that there is no meaning of being a "representative of the people if we fail to protect the territorial boundary of the state". She added, "Not only resigning as an MLA, I will also resort to hunger strike if the Centre happens to enter any agreement hurting the interest of Manipur while settling the Naga issue".

The opposition MLA then demanded for a special session of the state Assembly. She also said that the BJP-led coalition government adopts a cabinet decision.

She then called upon the people to stand united to protect the geographical boundary of Manipur.

Another Congress MLA, K Govindas also took part in an "alert protest" staged by the people of Ningthoukhong in Bishnupur district on Sunday. The MLA further took part in the formation of human chain by blocking half the road along Tidim Road.

Talking to reporters, MLA Govindas said that this is not the time ministers and legislators remaining silent. “We (all MLAs) must go to Delhi and knock at the door of the Centre,” he said.
