Cong a sinking boat in Meghalaya : BJP

Shillong, October 24 (PTI): The BJP today said the ruling Congress in Meghalaya is a "sinking boat" and claimed many senior Congress leaders are contacting its leadership in Delhi for "safe passage" to the saffron party before the assembly poll in the state.   Election to the 60-seat assembly in the hill state, which is one the two states the Congress is in power in the north east, is due early next year.   "Their (Congress) boat (party) is sinking. They are contacting our high command for safe passage," BJP spokesperson Basu Chakraborty told reporters here.   He said that the Congress party has become nervous as it knows that many of its legislators would be quitting the party by December and are spreading rumours against BJP.   Referring to allegations by a Meghalya minister alleging that BJP had changed the country's reservation policy, BJP spokesperson J A Lyngdoh said the party believes in the existing system and there is no need for review.   "BJP believes that those left behind economically should receive special care," he said.
