All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary i/c Nagaland, Dr. Jayakumar has demanded immediate response from the State Chief Minister and NPF president, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu, who recently stated that NPF was a “natural ally of BJP.”

He said that Nagaland being a Christian dominated state, it was unexpected of Chief Minister Dr. Shürhozelie to identify with BJP, the political wing of RSS, as the natural ally of NPF. Dr. Jayakumar said that the NPF had become subservient to the RSS and called upon all secular forces in the State to join hands to ensure that the ‘power mongers’ were put in their place.

Addressing media persons in Dimapur on Monday, Dr. Jayakumar maintained that the NPF-led Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) had committed a “grave sin” by declaring support to NDA's Presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind. He said that the Nagaland MLAs and MPs have betrayed the voters who elected them as their representatives. He alleged that the MLAs and MPs by extending unanimous support to Kovind had become the “slave of RSS.”

Dr. Jayakumar also said that the decision of the NPF-led DAN to support Kovind was an insult to the people of Nagaland and the Christian society of Nagaland as well.

Dr. Jayakumar alleged that Kovind was a “hardcore RSS” and reminded that he (Kovind) had described Christians and Muslims as being from other planet in an earlier press meet in 2010.

Despite such statements proving that Kovind was an “anti-Christian and anti-Muslim,” Jayakumar stated, the MLAs and MPs had failed to understand the sentiments of the people and instead became “power mongers”.

Stating that there was no whip in the Presidential elections, the secretary in-charge appealed to the MPs and MLAs to vote based on their conscience and not on the direction of the party.
