KK Sema IAS Retd and ex-candidate 5th Ghaspani-II today recollected on the rich legacy of the Congress party.

“The state of Nagaland, for better or for worse was created by the foundry of the Congress, with the agreement of a shared sovereignty and negotiated settlement. It was the Congress party that led us to where we are today,” he asserted while adding that it was created on the fundamentals of respect to every individual and minorities alike, and a principle of secularism.

The retired IAS was speaking during the launching programme of the nationwide Jan Sampark Abhiyan (Outreach campaign/Door-Door Campaign) by the Dimapur District Congress Committee (DDCC) at Congress Bhavan, Dimapur.

He alleged that the kind of freedom people deserve is now being destroyed by the BJP thereby making the nation less secular in all spheres and that a serious situation of emergency is coming up in the country.

“Today they want a country that is only lived in by the Hindus. Within the perimeter of the Hindu community, one cannot eat beef, pork but cow becomes a God,” he lamented.

Sema also regretted that over the years, the principles of honesty have disappeared, with the government looting the public, day in and out, without any infrastructure worth mentioning and corruption becoming a way of living in Nagaland.

He therefore, called upon the party workers to take the opportunity of the door- to-door campaign as a commitment and conviction to rejuvenate and revive the old dignity of what Nagas have been in the past. “Tell people that the Congress party is coming alive and reviving its old principles that they used in building the nation in the past. It is not a membership to look for opportunities for yourself but a principle in our living standard and our ability to stand up for what we believe is right.”

Stating that no authority can dictate or control our rights, he called upon them to ensure that the community both rich and poor is given the opportunity to grow together as a people.

Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) Secretary Temjen Yanger stated that the campaign intends to reach out to people and also gather funds while aiming at adopting austerity by cutting down expenditure on election campaigns. Booklets will also be distributed. Other party workers who spoke during the programme were Jonathan VP NPCC (incharge, Dimapur district) and Akavi Zhimomi (Ex candidate AAP 4th Ghaspani-I).
