Contractors' union demands Lokayukta in Nagaland soon

Kohima, July 26 (MExN): In the face of prevailing high rate of corrupt practices in the State by legislators/politicians and public servants, the Nagaland Govt. Registered Class-1 Contractors’ Union (NGRC-1 CU) has demanded to establish Lokayukta in Nagaland in order to curb corruption.

A press release from NGRC-1 CU General Secretary, L. Pukhato Shohe and President, Seyiekuolie stated that corrupt practices give birth to “disunity, protest, bandhs, riots, confusion, anti-national, selfishness, a big differences between the haves and have nots.”

NGRC-1 CU also informed that it fully endorsed the speech of NVCO President & Advocate Kezhokhoto Savi at St. Joseph’s College, Jakhama on July 19, who had said that the present legislators in Nagaland State Assembly simply avoid Lokayukta to avoid checking them. Some of the legislators, he said, may even be punished if it is implemented. Delaying the establishment of Lokayukta in Nagaland is simply encouraging corruption, Savi had added.

The NGRC-1 CU firmly demanded that the State Government, especially the constituted committee, must immediately submit their report and accordingly work towards an effective, powerful, impartial, independent and strong Lokayukta to be set up in the state at the earliest. “Failing which, the citizens of the state may fail to consider the present Government as a Welfare State and moreover the present Government may be considered as murdering the values of the state asset including human resources, damaging the economy of the state,” the release read.
