COVID-19 lockdown in Nagaland ‘near total with popular support’: Ravi

Kohima, April 3 (MExN): Nagaland Governor, RN Ravi today informed the President of India that the current COVID-19 lockdown in Nagaland is “near total with popular support.”

 


He stated this while briefing President Ram Nath Kovind and Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on the status of COVID-19 response in Nagaland on April 3, a press release from Raj Bhavan said.

 


The Governor also highlighted that the health workers in the State were doing their best with the available resources, it said. 

 


He also lauded the religious leaders for encouraging the people in observing social distancing, crucial to containing the spread of the pandemic and expressed appreciation to both the President and the Vice President for offering their good offices for all possible assistance to the State in the fight against COVID-19, it added. 

 


According to the release, the briefing was a part of discussions the President and the Vice President held with the Governors, Lieutenant Governors and Administrators of states and Union Territories on April 3. 

 


During the briefing, the President expressed concern over sporadic attacks on the health workers and police personnel in some parts of the country, it said.

 


He further noted that the gathering of migrant workers in Anand Vihar and congregation in Nizamuddin, both in Delhi - have “caused a set back to the efforts” in India’s response to the pandemic, it added.

 


The President also endorsed the Prime Minister’s appeal on April 3 to all citizens to observe the collective solidarity of the people against the pandemic at 9:00 pm on April 5 and also urged the people to celebrate the forthcoming festivals at their homes only, the release informed.
