COVID-19: Total shutdown of Dimapur from April 1-3

Dimapur district will go into total lockdown for a period of 3 days from April 1 to April 3. The Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner of Police, who also has magisterial powers, both issued corresponding orders today for enforcing the lockdown as a preventive measure against COVID-19. 

 


The DC, in his order stated, “In supersession to the previous orders… in exercise of the power conferred by section 30 (1) (2) under the Disaster Management Act, 2005… all shops, commercial and private establishments shall remain closed.”
The containment measure will remain in force in all parts of the district from 6:00 am, April 1 to midnight of April 3. 


 

Supplementing the DC’s directive, the CP issued another prohibitory order conferred under the Section 144 of the CrPC totally banning the movement of people and vehicles during the same period of containment. Food delivery services will also not be allowed. 

 


Police, army, para-military, magistrate on duty, doctors/medical personnel, including private hospitals and clinics), bank employees and media persons on duty and other emergency services personnel will be exempt. Treasury, Power, PHED, Telecom and vehicles transporting essential commodities will also be exempt.  

 


The order added that any person violating the directives will be liable for prosecution as per provisions in the Disaster Management Act and Section 188 of the IPC.
