Manipur State Council of Communist Party of India (CPI) on Thursday reaffirmed its stand against CAB.

“CPI will fight tooth and nail against contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB),” CPI Manipur state secretary L Sotinkumar asserted while addressing a press conference at Irawat Bhavan in Imphal this afternoon.

Sotinkumar said that the Union cabinet had given its approval to the CAB. It will be introduced in the Parliament in the ongoing winter session. "The Parliament will surely pass the bill to fulfill BJP’s agenda of making India a Hindu nation," the CPI leader added. While attempting to achieve the goal of making India a Hindu nation, indigenous people of Manipur will be victimized, he held.

Sotinkumar alleged that the recent discussions by the Union Home minister with civil society organizations and political parties of the Northeast states were only "namesake" to claim that the Centre had consulted with the stakeholders before CAB is introduced in the Parliament. “It was nothing but a strategy to pass CAB by force,” he further alleged.

The CPI leader further termed the Biren Singh led government of Manipur as the weakest government, Manipur ever has.

He then asked as to why his government was refusing to convene a session of the state Assembly before the ongoing Parliament session culminates. It urged upon the State government to convened an assembly session before the session gets over, that “whatever resolution adopted in the State Assembly can be made known in the ongoing Parliament session.”
