CRBC appeals to refrain from malpractices

Tseminyu, February 12 (MExN): The Clean Election Committee of the Council of Rengma Baptist Churches (CRBC) has resolved to endorse Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) resolution adopted at the latter’s 21st triennial convention held from February 2-4 at Impur.

A decision to this effect was taken at an emergency meeting of the committee on February 9 at CRBC Mission Centre, Zunpha, Tseminyu.

“The CRBC sincerely appreciates and takes upon itself the call of the NBCC leaders in appealing Naga leaders to safeguard our faith and uphold Christian principles at all cost,” CRBC Executive Secretary, Haiwalo Apon stated in a press release. “It is unfortunate that few sections of people still misconstrue and carry pessimistic view on clean election movement initiated and spearheaded by the NBCC.”

The CRBC at its meeting “re-affirmed and committed to re-enforce the prophetic role against the resistance from society at large in this ensuing election process,” it stated.

Meanwhile, it opined that one should understand and consider that corruption, false promises and a flawed democratic process damages our society because it hits at the heart of a person’s value system and ethics.

“Further, the process of healing and restoring is neither easy nor will we see immediate results. Nevertheless, it is our belief that a certain degree of transformation process has begun in the minds of many knowledgeable members with some individuals and families who have returned bribes after their conscience was awakened,” CRBC noted.

At the same time, the council expressed displeasure over a few section of Kandi Group leaders openly declaring support to a particular candidate under the banner “Kandi Group” on February 9 much against the Clean Election banner.

“This action is condemnable as it is against clean election guidelines of every individual being entitled to his/her opinion and his/her own vote. We pray that God's grace will abound even at this situation,” the release added.

CRBC appealed to all Nagas in general and Rengmas in particular to refrain from group declaration, violence, hatred, booth capturing and any other forms of malpractices during the election period.

Common Platform on February 15

Meanwhile, Rengmas in general were informed that CRBC is organizing a Common Platform on February 15, 10:30 am at RSA Ground, Tseminyu Old Town in order to “provide opportunity to Rengma public to elect the best capable candidates among them.”
