‘Crop protection: Current trend & future perspectives’

Three-day national seminar concludes at SASRD: NU, Medziphema

Medziphema, November 19 (MExN): A three-day national seminar on ‘Crop protection: Current trend and future perspectives’ was organized by the Department of Plant Pathology, Entomology & Agronomy, SASRD: NU, Medziphema campus from November 16 to18.  

T Imkonglemba Ao, Principal Secretary, Agriculture & APC, Government of Nagaland, who was the chief guest at the valedictory programme on November 18, termed the national seminar on crop protection the need of the hour. The recommendations that emerged out of the deliberations, he opined, should be reflected in the State policies of agriculture and allied sectors, informed a press release.  

Stating that Prime Minister’s Look East policy with special emphasis on the North East region was a great incentive, Imkonglemba further said the Nagaland Vision 2030 document has incorporated the 3 I’s – Inclusive, Intensive and Integrative – meaning that the approach is farmers centric and volume of production is enhanced by integration of new technologies and inputs.  

Meanwhile, he suggested that along with crop protection, production of crops that is marketable should be considered. He exhorted the scientists gathered to do research and development in the State which will benefit not only the scientist community but also the farming community.  

Special guests Helie Rupre-o, Director of Agriculture, GoN and Dr. RE Lotha, Director, Department of Horticulture, GoN also gave short speeches. On behalf of the farmers, Nihokhu Chophy gave feedback.  

Dr. CP Robert, Senior Scientist & Head, ICAR KVK, CARD, Pathanamthitta, Kerala, gave feedback on behalf of the delegates and said that the seminar was one of the best he had attended.  

Chaired by Prof. Akali Sema, the welcome address was delivered by Prof. AK Makar, Dean, SASRD: NU, while Dr. Sushanta Banik, Organizing Secretary, National Seminar presented the Seminar Report.  

The chief guest also gave away the awards for Best Poster to Pezangulie Chakruno, PhD Scholar, Department of Plant Pathology, SASRD: NU and Rokozeno, PhD Scholar, Department of Entomology, AAU, Jorhat, Assam. The award for Best Oral Presenter was given to Chandrika Buragohain, Dept. of Plant Pathology, AAU, Jorhat, Assam, Sandip Patra, Dept. of Entomology, AAU, Jorhat, Assam, and Moakala Changkija, SASRD: NU in the discipline of Agronomy.  

Earlier in the morning, farmers from Medziphema, Socunoma, Mezoma, Sirhima and Pherima villages interacted with scientists from the disciplines of Plant Pathology, Entomology, Agronomy, Horticulture and Livestock Production and Management.
